Visual Life and Fire Inspection

If you own fire extinguishers it is critical that you have them inspected regularly to make sure it will operate properly in the event of a fire.

All extinguishers must be professionally inspected and tagged once a year by a licensed fire protection services company. But, you can perform the monthly inspection yourself.

Monthly fire extinguisher inspections consist of just a few simple steps:

Check the pressure gauge to make sure it's in the green zone.

You might even lift the extinguisher to make sure it feels full.

Check to make sure the pin in the extinguisher head is intact and that the tamper seal is not broken.

Make sure there is no obvious physical damage.

Make sure the extinguishers are where they need to be.

The extinguisher should be easy to see.

Make sure there is nothing blocking access to the extinguisher or that could block access to the extinguisher in the event of a fire.

Make sure the operating instructions on the nameplate are legible and facing outward.

Check the tag on the extinguisher.

If it’s been more than a year since the last date on the tag, call a fire protection services company today.

Initial and date the back of the tag to certify that you have performed your monthly inspection.

While these monthly fire extinguisher inspections are important, they do not take the place of the annual fire extinguisher inspection.

If it’s been more than 12 months since the date on your fire extinguisher your fire extinguisher give FLSA a call today.
